Oddly enough this is no joke. Many Protestants have a “ex cathedra” view of the Bible.

If you brought them back in time and had St Paul himself tell him something that contradicted their understanding of the Bible, they’d trust the Bible (i.e. their reading of it) rather than St Paul since when St Paul was writing his part of the Bible, he was writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

……you decide your standard for determining if an Early Church Father’s teaching is correct is whether he lines up with your minister’s Bible study notes or not.

…..you reject Luther Martin’s (your weird ‘Christian’ cousin) theory that Jude, Philemon, 3 John, and Obadiah do not belong in the Bible (who is he to do that!), but you accept Martin Luther’s theory that 7 OT books needed to be removed.

…….you revise the words of Christ to be: “And upon this rock, I will build my Church, but the gates of hell will prevail against it.”

Great blog Steve! Keep up the good work.

a few more:

…….you alter 1 Tim 3:15 to read: “…Scripture is the pillar and foundation of truth.”

……..you alter 1 Peter 3:21 to read: ” However, baptism, which corresponds to this, cannot save you…”

…….you alter 2 Thess 2:15 to read: “Hold fast to the traditions I gave you, but only to those I wrote down.”

……..you alter James 2:24 to read: “You see that a man is justified by faith alone, not by works.”

……..you alter John 6:55 to read: “For my flesh is not really food indeed, and my blood is not really drink indeed.”
