Responding to Protestant Objections to Mary, Ark of the New Covenant

by Steve Ray on February 6, 2015

A while ago I wrote a somewhat comprehensive article on Mary as the Ark of the New Covenant and then a follow up with Quotes from the Fathers of the Church. Recently a Protestant seminarian wrote an email with objections to my article

My good friend Gary Michuta, a class act apologist, did me the kindness of responding to the objections. In the process he developed my article even further with more parallels and insights. Brilliant job Gary!

If you take the time to study my articles and now the response to objections, you will be proud to be Catholic and admire Mary more – and her place in Scripture and salvation history. If you are not a Catholic with a proper view of the Blessed Virgin Mary, there is no time like today :-)

You can read the detailed response HERE.

I do find it amusing to see that this Protestant gentleman started off distinguishing between Exegesis and Eisegesis. He claims that Steve is very good at Eisegesis, but in reading his rebuttal to Steve’s piece, I see that he seems to be very good at Eisegesis. I can say that the evidence presented to me, makes much more sense from Steve’s point of view than denying that God would have set up a plan to restore his kingdom in the way that he did. Why wouldn’t Jesus have used “essentially” the same plan using different people and slightly different methods? Was God’s plan not good enough the first time? I think it was. He knew what he was doing and he doesn’t change his mind.

The very thought that a protestant is telling someone how to properly interpret scripture is comical. Their entire claim to fame is sola scriptura and that all you need to find the truth is you, the Bible and the Holy Spirit. All you have to do is pray to the Holy Spirit and you will be led into the truth. How can this gentleman tell anyone else, that has prayed to the Holy Spirit and read scripture, that their interpretation is not correct (according to his own protestant tradition)? And why is this gentleman even in seminary? Can his seminary teach him anything else that the Holy Sprit can’t?

Hi Steve,
I tried to open Gary Michuta’s response but it said the download didn’t exist. Would very much like to read it.
Could be my computer or my lack of computing skills, but just thought I’d let you know.

Thanks for all you do,
God bless,
Frank
